Silent color footage of The Doors at the Tamalpais Mountain Theater on June 10th, 1967, shot by audience member Steve Brown on an 8mm camera who is stationed near the back of the amphitheater. At approximately three minutes in length, this is one of three known sources of film footage of The Doors taken at this festival.
This well known footage of Jim Morrison's onstage arrest by New Haven authorities on December 9th, 1967 is shot in color on an 8mm camera. Unreleased footage from the same reel is rumored to exist in The Doors archives, however confirmation is still needed.
Silent color 8mm footage of The Doors performance at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. The complete film runs at approx. 2 minutes and includes footage of the show's openers Linda Ronstadt & The Stone Poneys. A twenty four second preview was made available to potential buyers for previewing when first listed for auction.
Silent Super 8mm film. While previously known to collectors, this footage was transferred in late 2016 and made available on YouTube for viewing. Jim Morrison is not wearing leather pants during this performance but appears to have given a very animated show. Running at approx. 5 minutes, the film is mainly dark and out of focus but shot close enough to the stage for easy viewing.
Silent 8mm color footage. This film was recently released on YouTube by its owners. Actor Harrison Ford can be spotted during the Country Joe & The Fish performance, preparing a camera for Paul Ferrara. Besides the existing footage of this concert captured by the Feast of Friends crew, Paul Rothchild can be spotted in photographs filming The Doors with his own 8mm camera.
Silent color footage of The Doors performance at Sam Houston Coliseum in July, 1968. While generally dark, this footage captures Jim and Ray asking the audience for cigarettes, and Jim Morrison's return out from underneath the stage with Paul Ferrara filming the event.
Silent color footage of The Doors shot on an 8mm Kodak camera with one 4-minute cartridge at the Singer Bowl in New York. Portions of the reel include performance footage of 'The Who'. Film shifts in and out of focus. Appears to have been shot close to the stage.
This source of film was shot over 4 different 8mm rolls, however it is possible that they do not all contain performance footage. The films whereabouts are currently unknown, and are said to be in the possession of the filmer.
Silent color 8mm footage shot during the late show by Henrik Skjoldager at the Falkoner Centret in Copenhagen on September 17th, 1968. While The Doors were captured on film extensively during their European tour, this is the first known instance of an audience 8mm film made during a performance. Running at approx. 2:47, the film features an introduction using a concert ticket from the show, a smiling John Densmore, and The Doors 'execution' scene that had become a concert staple in 1968 while performing The Unknown Soldier. The few remaining seconds of the film depict what is likely a segment of The End as Jim appears to spot a 'moth' on the stage. While current copies of the film are sourced from a VHS tape, the filmer is known and may be in possession of the original 8mm film.
Approximately 4 minutes of silent color 8mm footage shot at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio on November 2nd, 1968. Covering the show from start to finish, this footage features images of the venue marquee, The Doors arrival on-stage, close-ups of Jim Morrison performing in his red sweater and white pants, and the closing of the show. Color 8mm shot from a distance. No audio present. The original filmer recently located this film in his closet after his re-discovery of a Led Zeppelin concert film at the Fillmore East dated one week after The Doors performance at Madison Square Garden on January 24th.
For years, this silent color 8mm footage was said to have been shot at the Seattle Pop Festival, however new clues point towards the idea that this was in fact filmed at the Cow Palace. Running at approximately six minutes, the footage includes Lonnie Mack.
Color 8mm film shot by Doug McClement at the Toronto Rock n' Roll Revival in 1969. This footage contains multiple acts from the festival, including Alice Cooper, John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band, and The Doors. Distant and hard to watch, this footage was shot from a filming platform used earlier by the production crew of D.A. Pennebaker.
3 minutes of silent color 8mm footage shot at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena on September 20th, 1969. During the course of the show, the house lights are turned up as police attempt to control the audience. The original 8mm rolls of film received damage while being pulled through a projector by hand, but have now been restored and transferred for proper viewing. Approx. 7 and a half minutes of silent color 8mm footage shot at the late show on January 17th, 1970 at the Felt Forum. Jim Morrison can be seen shaking maraccas and taking many stances known from photographs by multiple photographers. The film is mostly out of focus, but is shot from multiple angles and remains easy to watch.
Silent Color 8mm. Out of focus, distant, and hard to watch. Eli Radish can also be seen performing in this footage. In the past, collectors mistakenly labeled this footage as Dallas, 1968. Amateur photographs from this performance confirm the date and location of this footage.
Silent Color 8mm. Hard to watch. The footage is broken into clips rather than filmed as a continuous take. This footage was commonly labeled as Chicago 1970, but new photographs have proven this footage was shot during the Boston performances in April, 1970. A second, color film shot at the Boston show. The footage is rumored to be over 30 minutes in length, and appears to be very good quality. No further details are known.
