Info:
Following their concerts at the Falkoner Centret in Copenhagen the night before, a full black and white television performance is filmed at the Gladsaxe-Byen Studios in Copenhagen on September 18th, 1968. Produced by Sten Bramsen and hosted by Edmont Jensen, the program is an exclusive half-hour feature on The Doors. Hello, I Love You is a hit in Denmark at this time, and the band is followed into the studio by photographers Jan Perrson and Günter Zint. The stage is a series of platforms, each represented by the national flags of the United States, Denmark, and Sweden. No audience save for the photographers are present in the studio, allowing The Doors
to perform a laid back set, and these are the first television studio recordings of all songs featured in the performance. The program is broadcast a month and a half later on Television-Byen on October 30th, 1968.
Prior to The Doors arrival in Europe for their 1968 tour, Danish Television is given a showing of 16mm copies of The Unknown Soldier and Break On Through by The Doors European press agent Leon Barnard in an attempt to secure a slot on Television-Byen to give the films a television broadcast. Although the films are ultimately rejected, the band is offered a half-hour segment to perform 'live' in the studio and a deal is struck.
Although the recordings of Love Me Two Times and Texas Radio are included in the 1983 album Alive She Cried and the 1985 video release of Dance On
Fire, the complete performance is not released until 2002 on the Soundstage Performances DVD. The original two-minute introduction by Edmont Jensen is excluded from the release and does not surface until years later in an online archival representation of the program. While filmed in black and white, color photos taken by the photographers present in the studio have surfaced and are known to collectors from this performance. Modern technological advances present an opportunity for this program to be colorized and re-released to fans in high resolution.
