The Doors rehearse the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour television performance on the 5th of December, and record on the 6th. Filmed and broadcast in color, the band performs Wild Child and Touch Me with saxophonist Curtis Amy and the Smothers Brothers Orchestra. This performance serves to promote the single for Touch Me which is released this month, and industry magazines follow up on this performance by printing a unique ad for Elektra that mentions the Smothers Brothers broadcast. Various photographers are also present in the studio, including Tom O'Neal, Jasper Dailey, and Gino Rossi, both during rehearsals and the recording session. This is a nationwide broadcast in the U.S. and Canada taking place on December 15th, with George Carlin and The Committee as the other featured guests on the episode. CBS cancelled this show on June 8th, 1969.

Robby Krieger is sporting a black eye during this performance, and over the years many tales have been told as to its origins. In his new book Set The Night On Fire Robby reveals to fans that the black eye was the result of a recent car accident, and provides readers with all of the details.
