"The Valley Teen Center was on Victory near Louise. It had 2 stages and rooms and an outside stage near a large fire pit. There were speakers all over the place and outside. There were always 500 or so teens from everywhere there dancing and having fun until midnight. Hundreds of amateur bands performed over the course of the year. Occasionally there would be a professional band. Iron Butterfly played there a dozen times maybe and was considered the house band.

As the house DJ for the night after I got through introducing and playing records, I had the distinct privilege of introducing The Doors, who of course, played outside under the stars by the fire pit. Their songs were each played in long version with very long solos while the crowd outdid themselves with wild and groovy dance moves determined to be out of this world. It was fitting music beneath the stars. There were no spotlights; just ambient light, so The Doors were very incognito while they each played their wildest and weirdest with heavily stretched-out unending solos. Morrison was the voice that led you there, very dramatically.

The electric piano music was a trade mark sound that was meticulous and ever-present. They had a very polished, dramatic, and serious show. I got lost in the solos. There were a lot of bands who sounded good, but few had all original material, which made The Doors stand out. It was months later that I knew I had heard the music on the radio of Light My Fire some place before."
