"The Doors were originally scheduled to perform on August 15th but the date was moved to the 23rd. Looking at the two dates, it had to be us choosing to have the concert on a Wednesday as opposed to a Tuesday night... We had to careful on who we booked on work nights (Sunday through Thursday), especially on a Monday and Tuesday, they were the toughest draw-wise. So, Wednesday was just a better night for us to sell tickets and produce a concert.

The July 29th on the ticket stub (See Below) I believe comes from a Cactus concert we had weeks prior - they were friends from the Vanilla Fudge days and we had them often. If you look at the ticket stub it says 11:30 PM... We had Cactus for an early and late show on July 29th and knowing our box office they used some unsold tickets for the Doors concert. Non-Ticketron (which was a new company) tickets for the Ritz rarely had the artists performing there on the tickets. Even the Fillmore East used blanks on concerts that were booked last minute, which we did a lot of times.

I remember The Doors doing and incredible extended version of "Ships With Sails" from Other Voices album along with another lengthy version of "Light My Fire" for the encore. They were really nice guys and were having a fun time at the theatre and hung out for some time afterwards, they were still there when their gear was packed and gone, which was very unusual and usually the other way around.

Besides the music, one thing that I always thought was odd was that the opening act Phlorescent Leech & Eddie came by limousine and The Doors via yellow cab. Funny story with Ray and me, I'd been trying to pick up this young lady that use to come to our concerts quite a bit... I mentioned this to Ray and asked him on his way to the cab if he could call me over like he wanted to talk to me about something and he happily obliged... I dated her for two years after that night!"
