The Doors very first appearance on the radio takes place in February of 1967 on KRLA 1110 during a 15 minute news broadcast by Lew Irwin. The subject of this news segment on The Doors is the newly erected Elektra billboard on the Sunset Strip, where Lew Irwin of KRLA is present with a tape recorder on the same day The Doors are photographed by Bobby Klein. A photograph of the band taken by a staff member of Foster & Kleiser, who erected the billboard, shows Lew interviewing the band with microphone in hand. Tape recordings made for KRLA news segments are known to have been continually reused and a copy of this news segment has never been found.

KBLA - WHISKY A GO GO PROMO SPOT

In The Doors second known radio appearance, John Densmore records a promo spot for the band's upcoming performances at the Whisky A Go Go in May 1967. As Light My Fire plays in the background, John states to the listeners "This John of The Doors, we'll be burning from May 16th to the 21st at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood. We'd like you to sit in and help us light the fire!". KBLA Burbank's final broadcast takes place a month later on June 16th.

Beginning in May of 1967, The Doors are featured on a five minute U.S. Army radio program known as The "In" Sound. Vinyl records featuring five or six shows are pressed for weekly airplay, and each segment is hosted by Harry Harrison. A typical broadcast includes an introduction by Harry with a phone call to a listener, a hit song by the featured band, and a brief interview with a band member. For the programming featuring The Doors, Ray Manzarek is interviewed both via phone call from New York to California, and in-person at the New York studio. The Doors last known inclusion for this program is dated for the week of January 15th, 1968 and Love Me Two Times is the song in focus.

While in town to perform at the Annapolis National Guard Armory on August 18th 1967, The Doors visit the WYRE radio studio to meet with fans and promote their music and concerts. Disc jockey Wayne Gracey is present in the studio and conducts an interview with the band on the air. The groups also attempts to convince the disc jockey to play The End. No recordings of this broadcast are known to exist.

Jim Morrison tells the audience "If you think our first album was weird, wait 'til you hear the next one!". No recordings of this broadcast are known.

Details on the contents of this half hour 1967 KRLA radio program are currently unknown, however a tape recording marked with a broadcast date, program title, and other info is known to exist. There is a possibility that this broadcast utilizes Mike Masterson's interview recording of The Doors from August 28th, 1967, later used in the production of the Pop Chronicles rock and roll history program, completed and broadcast in 1969.

In September 1967 The Doors are interviewed in New York by Ed Baer at WMCA Studios for a 15 minute radio program known as The Guard Scene, sponsored by the U.S. National Guard. The program features two songs, Light My Fire and People Are Strange, with an introduction by Jim Morrison, and interview cuts in between tracks with the entire band. This interview was broadcast by WMCA and syndicated on radio stations throughout the U.S. The Doors appear on show #110 for the week of October 15th, 1967, with Peaches & Herb featured for the last 5 minutes of the show. The master tapes used in the production of this radio show are considered lost, and were likely re-used by WMCA to record other artists and performers.

No broadcast recordings have ever surfaced of the interview and it remains unclear as to wether or not the interview was broadcast at all.
