A 55-hour radio program known as The Pop Chronicles first airs on KRLA in Los Angeles on February 9th, 1969. Produced by John Gilliland who recorded for, wrote, and narrated the entire program beginning in June 1967 while working for KRLA's news department, the program is broadcast in chapters on Sundays at 6pm until late November 1969. Chapter 19 of the program features The Doors, and included are segments of an original interview recording made by Mike Masterson at The Doors Office on August 28th, 1967 with all four band members present, plus a 1968 interview recording of Elektra publicist Danny Fields recorded on September 3rd, 1968. In 1970, the program is revised and polished and re-broadcast on various radio stations throughout the U.S. Original work tapes for The Doors section of the program still exist and include unused portions of the 1967 interview. Billed as "Modern music's first rockumentary, 48 hours of both the voices and music of the greatest stars of rock & roll", this radio documentary premiered on KHJ in Los Angeles, and was later syndicated across the United States and Canada. The program is produced and directed by KHJ program director Ron Jacobs, and written by Pete Johnson of the Los Angeles Times. Host Robert W. Morgan narrates the show without pre-written lines, and later versions of the program include narration from Humble Harve. The Doors portion of the program features Light My Fire and Hello, I Love You, and later versions of the program feature additional tracks from the L.A. Woman album.

This radio spot is recorded for the DO IT NOW Foundation in presumably 1969 to promote the Speed Kills campaign launched by this non-profit street drug education organization in Los Angeles. Jim and Ray record separate spots, however Jim is not co-operative and the DO IT NOW representative leaves without capturing a proper recording. Although Jim's recording is considered lost, a known radio recording features a finished promo with Ray Manzarek. The original broadcast time period for this promo is unknown, however KABC-FM is known to have changed to KLOS in 1969. By late 1970, the DO IT NOW Foundation's radio spots are broadcasting on over 200 stations across the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. Harry Richardson, the founder of DO IT NOW, is the likely representative recording Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek for this PSA.

Following The Doors performance in Miami on March 1st 1969, city officials issue warrants for the arrest of Jim Morrison. In their search for evidence, ads are taken out ads with various local radio stations requesting recordings, film, and photographs from the show. During the trial in Miami, testimonies by witnesses indicate that the ads are answered. There are currently no known surviving examples of these ads.

On June 19th, 1969 Jim Morrison and Frank Lisciandro arrived in Atlanta for the second International Film Festival. After arriving at headquarters, Jim decides to try out the promoter's all new briefcase-sized mobile telephone - the first Jim had seen. After placing a few calls to LA, the promoter requested that Jim call up the local radio station responsible for promoting the event, and make an announcement for the Feast of Friends showing on the following day. The DJ puts Jim on the air, and he makes his announcement. A recording of the broadcast has never been found.

The Doors performance at Cow Palace was likely advertised many times over the radio in the days leading up to the show.
